POSITION SUMMARY:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Youth Sports Coordinator at the Scottsbluff Family YMCA will develop, organize, and implement all of the youth sports programs that the YMCA offers.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Coordinates, supervises, and facilitates program activities and curriculum to meet YMCA objectives under the direction of the Associate Executive Director and when necessary, participates in the direct instruction of participants.
  • Establishes new program activities and expands programs depending on the needs of our community and the youth we serve.
  • Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.
  • Ensures the development of sports and youth program curriculum with age-appropriate activities.
  • Performs administrative duties, as well as nights, and weekend activities which support the youth and family programs.
  • Supervises employees in assigned accountabilities, monitors program operations and scheduling.
  • Assists in the recruitment and development of program volunteers.
  • Works hands-on in programs, activities and special events as needed.
  • Ensures attendance records, program reports, and other required administrative procedures are complete.
  • Markets and distributes program information to YMCA members and the community.
  • Develops positive relationships with children and parents enrolled in programs.
  • Monitors care and maintenance of all program facilities and equipment with concern for the health and safety of participants and ensures repairs are made as needed.
  • Incorporates the mission, philosophy, and 5 core values of the YMCA in all communication with participants and co-workers.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Ability to perform a variety of physical activities with program participants which may include, but are not limited to, walking, standing for long periods of time, running, and throwing.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Certifications required within 30 days of hire: American Red Cross CPR/AED/First Aid; Redwoods safety training requirements.
  • Minimum of 18 years of age.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience working within youth, sports, or family programming.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide and role model quality customer service, and effectively evaluate other staff.
  • Must be self-directed and detail oriented.
  • Demonstrated organization and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations.
  • Basic computer skills.
